White\u2019s <i>The Once and Future King <\/i>brings the story to a whole new level. Broken up into four different sections, it starts with amusing stories of King Arthur\u2019s childhood, moves through the creation of his court and the knights of the round table, and ends focused on the betrayals and hatred that lead to the downfall of Camelot. However, the book does more than just tell the story of King Arthur. It also has an underlying anti-war message, mostly from the wizard Merlyn. Merlyn is living his life backwards through history, so White is able to use this character to make comments that would otherwise be completely anachronistic, including references to World War II.
