The Count of Monte Cristo is about an escaped prisoner who seeks revenge on the people who caused him to be wrongfully imprisoned. Set primarily in Marseilles and Paris, this book is a great summer read because it transports the reader into tumultuous yet whimsical 19th century France. Packed with adventure, romance and plot twists, The Count of Monte Cristo really is a page turner.
The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books! It’s got everything–great storytelling, characters, adventure, intrigue, and romance. (Johnny Depp would be perfect in a remake!) Don’t let the hefty volume scare you–as Issy says, it’s a fun page-turner, a great summer read.
